Newly designed a gun drill and BTA compound machine tool for Indian customer

There are two processing methods for deep hole machining based on different metal chip removal. One is external chip removal, which is the gun drilling method, suitable for drilling holes with a diameter of 40mm or less. The other is internal chip removal, which is the BTA machining method, suitable for holes with a diameter greater than 40mm.

Due to the different cutting tools and feed system used, the above two deep hole machining methods are generally implemented on two different machine tools, namely gun drilling and deep hole drilling and boring machines. But if a user requires holes to be machined on the same workpiece, with holes smaller than 40mm and holes larger than 40mm, can they be achieved on one machine tool? The answer is yes.

At present, we have encountered an Indian client who requests to drill 20mm and 13.8mm holes on a workpiece, as well as 102mm holes. Therefore, we have specially designed a machine tool that combines gun drill and BTA drilling, not only can this combined machine increase working efficiency, but also save the customer’s budget greatly.

The machine tool is controlled by the CNC system, which can control six servo coordinate axes at the same time. It can drill both row holes and coordinate holes. It can drill through holes at one time, or turn around 180 degrees to drill holes. It has both single action performance and automatic circulation performance. Therefore, it can meet the requirements of small batch production as well as the requirements of large batch production.

The machine is composed of the machine body, T-slot table, CNC rotary table, W-axis servo feed system, column, travel head with gun drill and that with BTA drill, slide table, gun drill feed system and BTA feed system, guide supporter of gun drill and oil pressure head of BTA, vibration damper steady of gun drill and that of BTA, cooling system, hydraulic system, electrical control system, automatic chip removal device, and overall protection.
